The Magic of Sailing Around the Island of Silba

SILBA SAILING

Discover the Northernmost Jewel of the Zadar Archipelago

Dear guests of Alitis Yachting, today I am taking you on an unforgettable journey through one of our favorite destinations – the beautiful island of Silba. As a professional skipper with many years of sailing experience in Croatian waters, I can say that Silba is a true pearl of the Adriatic that never stops delighting guests who choose to sail with us.

The island of Silba in the Adriatic Sea covers an area of 15 square kilometers, and what makes it special is the fact that it is an island where cars are prohibited. Silba is the northernmost island of the Zadar Archipelago, which means it is ideally located for sailboats coming from Kvarner, especially from the island of Krk.

Silba’s Maritime Tradition

SILBA SAILING

Silba was once a major maritime center, and at its peak 1,500 people lived here. This rich maritime tradition can still be felt when we sail into the island’s natural harbors. As a skipper, I always like to share with guests stories about how the inhabitants of Silba were known for centuries as skilled seafarers and shipbuilders.

Today, around 200 inhabitants live on the island, mostly engaged in sheep breeding and fishing, which further contributes to the authentic feeling we experience when we step ashore.
